MSM for allergies

Posted on Posted in Blog: From The Corner Office

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is an organic sulfur compound that is found naturally in many vegetables, fruits and in animals. In addition, MSM is the third largest existing mineral in the human body.

There have been many scientific studies that clearly demonstrate MSM’s benefits for arthritis and joint problems. But, MSM also has a secondary benefit for treating seasonal allergies such as we are currently experiencing here in Houston.

Unlike medication antihistamines that intervene to inhibit histamine production, MSM actually prevents the histamine from creating swelling, inflammation and fluids in the nasal passages.

According to an article in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, 55 adults took 2,600 (mg/day) of MSM for 30 days for the treatment of Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis. The results were impressive. At day seven “Total respiratory symptoms were reduced significantly and it was further reported that “Energy levels increased significantly by day 14…this increase continued through day 30.” Also, there are almost no reported side effects or known drug interactions from taking MSM in the literature.

MSM can be found in any drug or health food store and is relatively inexpensive. If you are having problems with seasonal allergies, try MSM. You will breathe better and your joints will feel good as well!
